Armed and Dangerous

I want to confess that I LOVE all things girly EXCEPT when it comes to movies. I gotta see something explode, crash, fall from the sky or battle the unknown of outer space. There are lessons to be learned while watching these kinds of films. The first is, I got to get in better shape just incase I ever have to out run zombies or chase down a 747 jet or I had to leap tall buildings with a single bound. The second lesson is, don’t give up no matter how big the obstacle may seem. (that’s why it’s safe to go back into the water thanks to Chief Brody…I bet you’re humming the theme to Jaws!) See, what I really love about these movies is that there is always a hero, just your average person with no particular skills or superhuman abilities. A person who woke up that day and was thrust into a situation where they had the choice to either coward (which usually meant the world would be destroyed) or take on the challenges facing them.

That’s why I love the Word of God!! It’s filled with accounts of ordinary men and women doing extraordinary things. David armed with just a slingshot and a stone taking down a giant. Jehoshaphat, who led his people into a battle armed with the weapon of praise to see victory in a battle they didn’t even have to fight. Esther, who stepped out in faith with no thought of her own safety to save the lives of her people. Paul wrote 2/3’s of the New Testament and most of that time writing while in prison. The list goes on and on. Ordinary people that made a decision to trust a great big God!!! People like you and me who wake up every morning and choose to either be brave or crawl back under the covers. (I’m hoping you’re the brave kind!!) What I love about our God is that He doesn’t send us into combat unarmed!! 2 Samuel 22:40 starts out by saying “For You have armed me with strength for the battle”. You are stronger than you think you are!!! You are armed and dangerous!!! The devil fears you so much that he’ll try anything and everything to get you to believe that you’re too small and insignificant to impact your world, what a liar he is!! My mom might be considered by some as being just an ordinary woman, a widower living on a fixed income in a senior home but she has never bought the lie of the devil. About a year ago she was faced with an extreme situation. While trying to console a man who felt he had nothing to live for and wanted to commit suicide, he turned the gun on my mom. While he held the gun inches from her head he asked her “what can your God do for you now”. (I know it’s like the scene out of an action movie!! If you need to get some popcorn, go for it!) Now lots of movies have cliffhangers. The part where they get you sitting on the edge of your seat then leave you with all kinds of questions as to what happened next. And if you want to find out what she did next, I invite you to come hear her in person Friday February 17th at Flourish Sisterhood at 7pm.  And this is just one of her many stories. She is an amazing example of someone who is armed and dangerous for Christ!! If a little 68 year old woman can face some giants how about you? Tomorrow when you get up and the devil tries to overwhelm you with circumstances, arm yourself with the Word of God, spend quality time in prayer and get your praise going and after that you’ll be ready to stare down your giant and say in your best Clint Eastwood voice – “I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”

Happy New Year

Let me start by saying Happy New Year!!

I don’t know if you started off this new year with party hats and noise makers, watching the ball drop in Times Square on TV or if you slept through it, wherever you were or whatever you were doing, it happened, we began a new year. Just think about this for a moment, we spent 365 days in the year 2011 and with the click of the second hand on a clock we stepped over into 2012.

This past year might have been a difficult year for you, okay wait let’s get real, for some of you this past year has felt like satan himself had set up camp in your back yard!! You might have experienced more tears than laughter, more bills than money, more stress than peace or more loneliness than friendship but I have great news for you…that was all last year!!! When we began 2012 we started it with a choice. The choice to carry all of last year’s frustrations, fears and disappointments with us or the choice to seize the opportunity for a new beginning.

God’s promise to you in 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun”. Are you in Christ? I’m not just talking about your born again experience, I’m talking about right now, this very moment. Are you allowing Christ to reign in every area of your life? If so, then with the strength and anointing of Jesus Christ, I encourage you to let go of the old and embrace the new. Don’t drag the “shoulda, woulda, coulda” mentality with you. Lay the hurts, shame, guilt and failures at the feet of the King (don’t worry, He can handle it!!) and stand firm and shout with me Psalm 118:24 “THIS IS THE DAY (YEAR) THE LORD HAS MADE, I WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT”. Now come on, some of you cheated and just read that in your head or just barely moved your lips. Shout it loud, (use that voice you use when your kids have just stepped on your last nerve! Lol). There you go, you’ve just sent satan running in fear!! Feels good doesn’t it!!! I think some of you need to put on a party hat and grab some noise makers and shout it a couple of more times!!

“Then He who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’  And He said to me, ‘Write, for these words are true and faithful.’” Rev 21:5

Now I want you to check back here next week because I want to spend this year with you on this blog to help uplift, encourage and stir you up to grasp ALL that the Lord has planned for you in 2012!!

xoxo
